Camping in 1994

I travelled with my son Les and his family Sue and two children Brendan and Christy to the vast North West Of Western Australia. The two youngsters had never been bush before and were amazed at the enormous distances we travelled without seeing anything of interest and the vast emptiness. When Christy wanted a shower towards evening before we stopped to set up camp, she was horrified to find out that we were nowhere near such luxuries. We pulled up passed Minilya Station where a large flat outcrop was with a sign that said lookout, so Les negotiated over the rough track upwards to investigate. It was flat all right. We couls see practically across the desolate landscape to the ocean. At the edge of this escarpment the sides were many metres down to the landscape. Bendan perched on a convenient concrete seat and looked like a little lost man in a vast wide emptiness

I learnt just how much Lauren Bacall loved Humphrey Bogart and I respected her for her diligence and love in caring for him when he was dying. She wrote her autobiography her way, so that readers would know that she told the truth with no holds barred. Its a magnificent story. It is heartbreaking though, to read just how much the stars, including Humphrey and Lauren, were used in the film industry to make millions for the Hollywood moguls
