He spoke of the horrors of the modern world and how we can overcome these by listening to the Holy Ghost. We can also feel the Holy Ghost when we need comfort, or support or any reason that we need to know something. I have felt the Holy Ghost, a touch on my face, a touch on my back, a touch on my coat-sleeve during a Relief Society meeting on the Holy Ghost. I was prompted to write a poem about Him and have pasted it below Elder Christensen's message. I love conference and I watch some of it, though I can't hear it, but i read the messages and that is great

Who Is the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead, and, as such, like God the Father and Jesus Christ, He knows our thoughts and the intents of our hearts.³ The Holy Ghost loves us and wants us to be happy. Since He knows the challenges we will face, He can guide us and teach us all things we must do to return and live with our Heavenly Father once again.⁴

Unlike Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, who have glorified bodies of flesh and bones, the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit who communicates to our spirits through feelings and impressions.⁵ As a spirit being, He has the unique responsibility of being an agent through which personal revelation is received. In scripture, the Holy Ghost is often referred to as the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy Spirit of Promise, or simply the Spirit.⁶

What Is the Mission of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost works in perfect unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, fulfilling many important roles and distinct responsibilities. The primary purpose of the Holy Ghost is to bear witness of God the Father and of His Son, Jesus Christ,⁷ and to teach us the truth of all things.⁸ A sure witness from the Holy Ghost carries far more certainty than a witness from any other source. President Joseph Fielding Smith taught that “the Spirit of God speaking to the spirit of man has power to impart truth with greater effect and understanding than the truth can be imparted by personal contact even with heavenly beings.”⁹

The Holy Ghost is also known as the Comforter.¹⁰ During times of trouble or despair or simply when we need to know that God is near, the Holy Ghost can lift our spirits, give us hope, and teach us “the peaceable things of the kingdom,”¹¹ helping us feel “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding.”¹²

 

My Comforter

A touch on my coat-sleeved arm,

A pressure of someone there

A search of who’s beside me?

Only an empty chair.

The dedicated teacher and I,

Discussing the Lord’s Comforter

Which brought a tear to my eye

And ruffled my composure.

 

To forthwith follow His direction,

The gentle promptings in my mind.

Of my heart an urgent feeling detected,

A wrong, on my face a rebuke but kind.

A touch on my back when I was stressed

Words in a light when I was in fear

Ticker-tape words when I was depressed

Onward I He firmly did steer.

A firm remark when desperate help needed

A feeling of warmth when all is okay

Let not His warnings go unheeded

Heed what the Saviour always would say

Or a touch on a coat-sleeved arm

 

 

A new Temple

Another Temple opens to delight us all. The Brigham City Utah Temple is now open to the public before closing for the dedication and patron use. Our Temples are so beautifully designed whether they be large or small. I am very humble to think that the Saviour considers me to be a worthy Temple patron and go regularly to honour Him.

The Brigham City Utah Temple, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ (Mormons) 139th temple, will open to the public Saturday, 18 August 2012. The open house will continue through mid-September before the temple is formally dedicated.
President Boyd K. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will dedicate the temple on Sunday, 23 September 2012 in three dedicatory sessions. The sessions will be broadcast at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to Latter-day Saint meetinghouses throughout Utah and in areas of southeastern Idaho that are located within the temple’s district. All regular Church meetings will be canceled on 23 September to allow members in those areas to participate in the dedication broadcast.

The public is invited to visit the temple during the open house beginning Saturday, 18 August 2012, continuing through Saturday, 15 September 2012, excluding Sundays and Saturday, 8 September. Advance reservations may be made by visiting www.templeopenhouse.lds.org (maximum 20 reservations per person) or by calling 1-855-537-2000 (group reservations may also be accommodated at this number).
The Brigham City temple is the Church’s 14th temple in Utah. The temple will serve some 40,000 Latter-day Saints in 13 stakes (similar to a diocese) throughout northern Utah and southeastern Idaho.
Plans for a temple in Brigham City were announced by the Church’s First Presidency on 3 October 2009. Construction began after a formal groundbreaking on 31 July 2010 directed by President Packer, a Brigham City native.
While tens of thousands of Church meetinghouses are open to all people who wish to attend religious services there, temples, after they are formally dedicated, are open only to faithful Latter-day Saints. (See a Mormon Newsroom article explaining the difference between the Church’s chapels and temples.)
Latter-day Saint temples differ from the meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow man.

Perth Weather

Now this is normal for Perth and what I always call a genuine Perth winter. I love it when its like this. We had Stake Conference this morning at the Perth Southern River Stake Centre. There was no rain when I left home but it sure came down during conference, almost drowning out President Pemberton's voice as he was the final speaker. It was so heavy that we could barely see the cars out side. It was like that for the rest of the day. I could here it thundering on the roof of the conference centre, which is corrugated, and outside here on the pergola roof and I am sevrely hearing impaired. Driving home I was indeed blest for the roads were busy to my surprise, like peak hour during the week and the windscreen wipers could barely cope with the downpour! I had planted some seeds so no doubt that rain will help bring them up and give my tiny wee sweet peas a boost. Lets hope and pray there is more of it

Cold front delivers wind, welcome rain to Perth and South West

A STRONG cold front brought high winds and much-needed rain to Perth and most of the South West and Wheatbelt yesterday and overnight.

The SES responded to at least 14 calls yesterday as high winds lashed the metropolitan area, causing minor damage and flooding in some areas.
FESA said most of the calls came from the Perth metropolitan area.
Today the wild weather has eased with just a shower or two likely early, before a mainly fine day, with a maximum in Perth of 17C.
Heavy rain in the Hills, southern suburbs
Rainfall in the Perth Hills was heaviest, with Mundaring recording 53mm and Bickley 45mm in the 24 hours to 9am today.
Karnet got 40mm and Roleystone 34mm.
Champion Lakes, near Armadale, had 24mm, Jandakot 24mm and Perth received just under 20mm. Dwellingup, 97km south of Perth got 36mm.

In the South West, Harvey had 28mm, Collie (East) 24mm, Manjimup 21mm and Bridgetown 16mm.

Falls were lighter in the Great Southern with Brookton 16mm, Wandering and Narrogin 14mm, but many centres recorded around 10mm. The rain would have been welcomed by wheat farmers, whose crops were in dire need of a good drenching, following one of the driest Julys on record across the state.
In the Central West, Badgingarra had 15mm, but most towns in the region would have been disappointed to record 5mm or less.
Near the south coast Albany recorded 20mm with Rocky Gully 26mm.
Heavy rain started falling in Perth just before midday, with the squally storm hitting the metropolitan area about 3pm.

POEMS

I attended, on the 6th July 2012, what is called a bush  muster and had an intriguing time in an area I had never before walked. Two of my poems were read out, to my delight. I learnt from this experience that the next bush must in early august I can attend and read my own poems out. Comments on my poems were very favourable. this was most encouraging. Danny and his then girlfriend Narelle came with me and they were impressed also. Here are the poems

                                                        FIREBALL

The flaming orb slithered through the trees,

Wafted along by the late evening breeze.

Its smoky tail drifted and dissipated,

Leaving the startled watchers agitated.

What is this? From whence did it come?

Why did it appear after the setting sun?

Where was it going? Panic abroad,

Hoping it wasn’t a danger sword.

The cows remained calm as it passed overhead

And the sheep were too busy trying to be fed.

But the watchers when closing the last gate,

Worried if the orb would change their fate.

Visions of burning the waving wheat

Of other weird sightings they might meet.

And mother and son observed this flame,

Of the mysterious orb and wondered its name.

Staring from the gate at the diminishing tail

                                   And marveling that the orb could leave a trail

To be observed by them and give a fright,

On what turned out to be a beautiful night.

Next morning it was they heard the news

Of a fiery fireball landing at Trewes.

It burnt up the haystack and caused a panic        
Rolling towards the house like a thing manic.

Farmer and sons with wet bags were out

To give the fiery thing a dampening clout.

But it petered out before reaching their home,

That was the end of the fiery orb’s roam.

Mother and son learnt that this flamin’ orb

Was caused by intense heat it did absorb,

As space junk that went into a hot spin

When passing through their Earth’s outer rim.

After great excitement it was back to norm

And farming work went ahead true to form.

But mother and son never forgot that night

When a bright fiery orb gave them a fright.

THE GALAH SESSION

                                                There’s a housewife off the beaten track

                                                Who rises before the sun has dawned.

                                                It is summer in the dry outback,

                                                Her work is done in the early morn.

                                                The heatwaves dance in isolation,

                                                Stunted mulga seem upside down.

                                                Her clothing sticks with perspiration,

                                                And its months since she’s been to town.

                                                The garden lies shrivelled and the hens don’t lay,

                                                Bread dough refuses to rise.

                                                Joe’s on ‘the run’, though due yesterday,

                                                He’s out there still with the flies.

                                                But it’s ten o’clock and gossip time,

                                                So she grabs her cuppa quick!

                                                Then races in to the radio room

                                                And tunes in lickety-split.

                                                ‘VKJ Meekatharra calling WIR...over.

                                                VKJ Meekatharra calling WIR!

                                                This station to long wave turn over

                                                For the session of the galah!’

                                                The neighbour a hundred of miles away

                                                Has ‘popped in’ to say hello.

                                                So what if the dog died yesterday,

                                                Her batteries are charged for another go!

                                                ‘It’s rained here, has it rained there?

                                                Is Joe back from the run...over?’

                                                ‘No - it hasn’t rained here and I despair

                                                And Joe is still out in the ‘rover.

                                                Its now the time for swapping troubles

                                                And the tension eases from her shoulders.

                                                A good old chat with laughter that bubbles

                                                Amongst the Spinifex and boulders.

This is a beautiful story of real life and its adventures. It is marvelous how Susan's article teaches us what we can do to help build confident kids in a mad world and help others do the same. I've shared it on Facebook with the hope that others might use her ideas for the welfare of their youngsters. No longer young myself, there is a wistful 'wish' that I could have been part of such fun, or for my own sons when growing up, but I was where I was and such a wonderful idea was out of the questions, Mums today, go do for your youngsters! Many summer camps across the nation have a new focus. They teach children to share equipment, to take leadership roles, and to feel the satisfaction of accomplishment after finishing a challenging obstacle course. Sound like camp as usual? At these camps, children participate in programs where all activities are geared to building their emotional IQ.
They “learn much about themselves, their own strengths and abilities. . . [They] build new life skills for themselves. Meeting these challenges brings true self-esteem, the kind that is earned, not empty words. Talking about self-esteem or trying to bolster it in kids does not work without real challenge in safe and supportive [activities],” wrote Posie Taylor.
However, parents don’t need specialized camp programs to raise children with healthy emotional intelligence. They can call up moms and organize their own day hike, water circus, or bicycle derby. By being part of the activity, they are there to encourage cooperation, taking turns, and helping others. They can use the conflicts that arise as teaching moments.
Child psychologists suggest that a child’s emotional health can greatly determine his academic achievement, success in a future career, the quality of future relationships, and their physical health. A child with a strong emotional intelligence will behave better, strengthen their family ties, and quarrel less with siblings.
Daniel Goleman, discussed a model in his book, Emotional Intelligence, Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, that focuses on competencies and skills. His model outlines four EI constructs.
Goleman’s first construct is self-awareness or emotional perception. This is the ability to read one’s emotions and recognize their impact while using gut feelings to guide decisions. Second, self-management, or using emotions, is the ability to control one’s emotions and impulses and adapt to changing circumstances. Third, social awareness, or understanding emotions, is the ability to sense, understand, and react to others’ emotions while comprehending social networks. Finally, relationship management, or managing emotions, is the ability to inspire, influence, and develop others while managing conflict.
With these in mind, here are four specific ways to help your child improve their EI, supported by Nikki Giant, a freelance educator specializing in writing for schools and parents about bullying and emotional literacy.

1. Improve emotional vocabulary to help children behave more calmly.
   “Children who can verbally describe their feelings are better equipped to communicate their needs. Researchers at the University of Colorado found that children with a wider emotional vocabulary were more able . . . to develop social and emotional competence for later life. Encourage children to match photographs of people to feelings labels and model using emotional language to help build children’s awareness.”
   As a suggestion, consider getting a poster like this one and covering the labels. Then make strips of paper for the child to place beneath each face.
2. Work and play together to resolve conflict.
   “A characteristic of emotionally intelligent people is their ability to appropriately resolve conflict and communicate with others, building relationships with ease. Use board games or imaginative play to teach turn-taking skills, sharing and cooperation, rewarding appropriate behavior with a small prize or praise. Communicating expectations, rules and repercussions for breaking rules will establish boundaries that children can adhere to.”
3. Make a goal chart. A goal chart can help to keep children on track.
   “Teaching children the skill of creating and meeting goals can lead to success with school work, on the sports field and with everyday behavior. Create a goal chart with objectives broken down into simple targets that children can reach. Encourage children to monitor their progress and explore ‘failures’ as learning opportunities to keep children engaged and help them succeed next time.”
4. Many children’s books address emotional themes.
   “Take advantage of opportunities throughout the day for children to build empathy and discuss feelings, such as after an argument or tantrum. Many children’s books explore themes such as loss, loneliness, jealousy and joy, which can be used as a talking point about their own experiences and to develop empathy for others.”
   One of my favorite books as a child was “Where the Red Fern Grows.” It helped me process my own grief over the loss of my dog.

As parents learn to communicate to their children about their emotions and how to use them productively, they will equip their children with the confidence for building successful relationships with others.

7/27/2012 — VERY LARGE night time eruption of Sakurajima Volcano in Japan

This occurred yesterday evening (july 26 going into july 27 JST)..
This video above, is a follow up eruption from the main caldera this time — truly impressive to see at night… a very long lasting eruption of lava…complete with large volumes of ash, several large static discharge lightning events, and even several flashes of what appears to be some kind of plasma …
The day before.. on July 25, 2012 — we saw the back side of the mountain erupt a VERY sizable plume, and send off massive shockwaves visible for many thousands of feet. It had been several years since the last time the back side of sakurajima showed noticeable activity.


Well lets hope and pray that the people of that small island are prepared if the thing really blows its top and may the Lord bless and protect the Saints that reside there. That's my plea. One can't stop it from going as one can't stop the ebb and flow of the tides, the pull of the moon and the fierce rays of the sun.

Volcanic eruption in Japan

The eruption no doubt means the movements of the earths plates and the earth itself for this to occur so lets hope and pray that no major eruption or earthquake occurs. It could take months to build up as has this eruptions by all accounts. I just wanted to record it  in my blog and wait to see what happens next


A NEW CALDERA HAS FORMED !!! behind the common erupting caldera.. on the back side of the mountain… a new area has exploded ! It began steaming MONTHS ago.. October 2011.

Sakurajima online cameras have not been posting the past few months..
today.. (july 24, 2012) we see a VERY LARGE blast occur… it is a daytime eruption.. so we’re not going to see too much glowing lava or lightning off of this.. however… the size of the blast shock wave, and the size of the ash plume fallout show the magnitude of this eruption.
